SMS Opt-In Policy
Last updated: 7/29/2026
1. Where Consent Is Collected
Khaya only sends SMS text messages to a phone number after the owner of that number has actively opted in through a web form on our login and signup pages. When a user selects "Phone Number" as their sign-in method, they are shown an unchecked consent checkbox directly beneath the phone number field, reading:
"I agree to receive SMS text messages from Khaya for account verification. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. See our Privacy Policy."
The "Continue" button that triggers the SMS is disabled until this box is affirmatively checked by the user. No phone number is submitted, and no message is sent, without this explicit action. A visual record of this screen is available at /sms-opt-in-proof.png. A live, interactive copy of this exact form is also available at /sms-opt-in-preview for review purposes, without requiring a private beta access code.
2. Declared Use Case
The sole purpose of SMS messaging on Khaya is delivering one-time account verification codes used to sign in or sign up. We do not use this opt-in, or the phone numbers collected through it, for marketing, promotional, or any other messaging use case.
3. Message Frequency
Messages are sent only in direct response to a user-initiated sign-in or sign-up attempt. Frequency therefore varies entirely with how often a given user chooses to authenticate by phone number, and no recurring or scheduled messages are sent outside of that action.
4. Opting Out
A user can withdraw consent at any time by replying STOP to any message received from Khaya, or by contacting us directly. Once opted out, that phone number can no longer be used to request a verification code; the user may continue to sign in using the email method instead. Reply HELP to any message for assistance.
